The Ketamine Infusion Treatment Method

Sunbelt Wellness Institute is committed to the overall well-being of our patients. By offering intravenous ketamine infusion treatments (IVKT), we aim to help those who are experiencing debilitating psychiatric and physical conditions.

Who Can Benefit?

Ketamine infusion therapy has been found effective in treating a wide range of mood disorders, including treatment-resistant depression, bipolar depression, postpartum depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Ketamine treatment can also be beneficial for people with chronic pain conditions, such as complex regional pain syndrome, chronic headaches, fibromyalgia, and other neuropathic pain conditions.

How Does It Work?

Most medications that are prescribed for treatment-resistant mood disorders and chronic pain work by changing the number of neurotransmitters and chemical messengers in the brain. Those medications may have debilitating side effects.

Ketamine works differently. IVKT triggers a cascade of events in the brain, temporarily blocking the activation of certain chemical receptors and signaling other pathways. Ketamine works on NMDA receptors, producing a protein that causes the rapid growth of new neural connections or “rewiring” of the brain. This rewiring effect leads to the antidepressant and anti-inflammatory benefits of IVKT.

What Can I Expect?

A routine IVKT session that includes a professional assessment and ketamine infusion treatment will take approximately 90 minutes. You will be monitored throughout your treatment by one of our certified nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) and registered nurse (RN) professionals.

Although individual responses vary, in our experience, patients who receive IVKT may experience immediate and effective relief from their symptoms, both during and after treatment. Ketamine infusion therapy has the potential to pave the way for lasting relief. Many patients who have undergone IVKT report that they are able to break out of persistent negative thoughts and behaviors while feeling well equipped to handle life’s challenges.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

Ketamine infusion therapy is not meant to be a one-time, permanent treatment. For most patients, the symptomatic relief from IVKT will begin to diminish over time. In general, a series of infusions provides longer-lasting relief than a single treatment.

Ketamine infusions are typically administered through six infusions that take one hour over a period of 14 days. After that, maintenance infusions are done once a month, according to your customized care plan.

Is Ketamine Infusion Therapy Covered By Insurance?

IVKT is a fee-for-service therapy. We require payment at the time of service. We will be happy to provide you with the necessary documents to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. We accept cash and major credit cards while also offering financing through the Advanced Care card.

Intravenous infusion is the gold standard for ketamine therapy and is widely supported in published, peer-reviewed clinical studies. To learn more about this unique treatment method, contact Sunbelt Wellness Institute today at (904) 328-6749 or use our online contact form.
